Passenger terminal
In spring 2026, the Ports of Faxaflói will open a new and impressive multi-purpose passenger terminal that will serve the large number of cruise passengers arriving each year. The building will be 5,500 m² over two floors, offering spectacular views over the bay.
The passenger terminal will replace the current temporary and limited facilities, ensure improved service for visitors, and support the goal of the Ports of Faxaflói to increase the number of turnaround cruise passengers, tourists who begin or end their cruise journeys in Iceland, stay longer in the country, and thereby generate greater value for society.

Multiple Functions
Multi-purpose passenger terminal
From October through March each year, outside the peak cruise season, the multi-purpose passenger terminal of the Ports of Faxaflói will also serve as a high-quality venue for a wide range of events, gatherings, and receptions in Reykjavík. Following a formal tender process, the Ports of Faxaflói entered into a partnership with Múlakaffi. A five-year agreement was signed on 1 October 2025.

A turnaround hub in the North Atlantic
Over the past years, approximately 300,000 passengers have passed through the Ports of Faxaflói each year, across 260 vessels. The Ports of Faxaflói have placed special emphasis on increasing the number of turnaround passengers traveling via Keflavík International Airport as part of their cruise journeys. These passengers stay longer in Iceland and generate greater value for the community.
The proportion of turnaround passengers this year is estimated at 52.4% of total visitors, which is the highest recorded to date.
