Smart booking solutions in ports
Transformation through software
At the Ports of Faxaflói, continuous efforts are made to identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency for all stakeholders involved in port activities. For agents and others connected to cruise ship arrivals, it is essential that booking processes are efficient and support their work.
The DOKK booking system was developed in Iceland as a centralized platform for cruise ship bookings and is now used by nearly all ports in Iceland. It has also recently been implemented widely in the Faroe Islands.
The goal behind the development of DOKK was to eliminate fragmented communication that can create challenges in port operations.
DOKK addresses this with a centralized system that allows ports and agents to manage all bookings in one place, including communication and booking history. In this way, DOKK transforms port and agency operations, making the booking process more efficient and straightforward. It also contributes to a more balanced distribution of ship arrivals.
Implementing Dokk in the Faroe Islands
DOKK has attracted considerable attention since its initial release, and the two largest agencies in the Faroe Islands, Tor Shipping and Faroe Ship, have adopted the system. Similar operational challenges existed before DOKK was introduced, and it is now in use at five ports in the Faroe Islands. To date, more than 250 bookings have been processed through DOKK in the Faroe Islands, and further implementation across additional ports is expected in the coming months.
Benefits of DOKK
DOKK makes cruise ship arrivals more accessible for all stakeholders. A calendar showing exactly when and where cruise ships arrive is essential for a wide range of industries, especially in smaller communities that rely on cruise tourism. Tourism operators across the region have made extensive use of the calendar to plan their activities based on passenger numbers for each vessel.
Various tourism and service companies use the DOKK calendar to anticipate passenger arrivals and organize their operations accordingly.
