A major step has been taken towards a modern delivery of electricity and water at the Ports of Faxaflói.

Self-service energy and water

In spring 2024, a new shore power connection was commissioned at Miðbakki in Reykjavík, making it possible to supply smaller cruise vessels with electricity at three berths in the Old Harbour. The number of vessels using this environmentally friendly technology has increased, and in some cases vessels have connected to shore power for the first time upon arrival in Iceland.

At the same time, during the renewal of pipelines at Austurbakki in the Old Harbour, three new service points were installed providing access to electricity, cold water, and hot water. An additional hot water service point was also added at Miðbakki.

This marks a milestone in energy and water delivery, with the introduction of a new self-service system that allows customers to access services through a mobile app. The system, which has gained strong popularity and reputation in ports across Denmark, provides real-time usage data and simplifies billing. With this solution, energy and water services are entering a new phase that is automated, digital, and efficient. This is only the beginning of further development toward more sustainable and technology-driven port services.
